Conditions & Treatments

With a multidisciplinary team of oncologists and state-of-the-art technology, we are committed to delivering personalised care tailored to each patient’s needs.

Bone, joint and spine pain can affect any part of the body, and the right treatment depends on exactly where the pain is and what's causing it. At Sunway Medical Centre, patients are assessed by orthopaedic specialists who diagnose the cause accurately, whether it stems from an old injury, an inflamed joint, or a condition that has developed gradually over time. Treatment is planned around the patient, and may range from physiotherapy and medication to minimally invasive or robotic-assisted surgery.

Neck

Neck

Neck

Neck pain is commonly caused by muscle or ligament strain from poor posture, repetitive movements, or minor injuries. It may also result from whiplash, age-related conditions such as cervical degenerative disc disease, or inflammatory conditions like rheumatoid arthritis. If neck pain is accompanied by headaches, numbness, weakness, or pain radiating to the shoulders or arms, prompt assessment is recommended to identify the underlying cause and prevent further complications.

Related Conditions

  • Muscle & Ligament Strain
  • Whiplash Injury
  • Cervical Degenerative Disc Disease
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis (Cervical Spine)

Spine

Spine

Spine

Back pain can range from temporary muscle strain to more complex spinal conditions. Common causes include poor posture, heavy lifting, slipped (herniated) discs, spinal stenosis, osteoporosis, and spinal deformities such as scoliosis or kyphosis. Persistent pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness should be evaluated early to prevent further complications and preserve mobility.

Related Conditions

  • Muscle & Ligament Strain
  • Slipped (Herniated) Disc
  • Spinal Stenosis
  • Osteoporosis
  • Scoliosis
  • Kyphosis

Hip

Hip

Hip

Hip pain often develops due to injuries, inflammation, or gradual joint degeneration. Common causes include fractures, bursitis, tendonitis, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, hip impingement (FAI), labral tears, and avascular necrosis. Early diagnosis helps preserve joint function and determine the most appropriate treatment.

Related Conditions

  • Hip Fracture
  • Hip Dislocation
  • Hip Bursitis
  • Hip Tendonitis
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Hip Impingement (FAI)
  • Labral Tear
  • Avascular Necrosis

Knee

Knee

Knee

Knee pain is commonly caused by age-related wear and tear, sports injuries, or sudden trauma. Conditions such as osteoarthritis, ligament injuries, and meniscus tears can affect stability, mobility, and daily activities. Early diagnosis helps identify the underlying cause and allows timely treatment to relieve pain, restore function, and prevent further joint damage.

Related Conditions

  • Osteoarthritis
  • ACL Injury
  • PCL Injury
  • MCL Injury
  • LCL Injury
  • Meniscus Tear
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis

Shoulder

Shoulder

Shoulder

Shoulder pain is often caused by overuse, sports injuries, or age-related wear and tear. Common conditions include rotator cuff tears, frozen shoulder, shoulder dislocation, osteoarthritis, and labral tears, all of which can limit movement and affect daily activities. Early assessment helps determine the underlying cause and enables timely treatment to restore mobility and reduce pain.

Related Conditions

  • Rotator Cuff Tear
  • Frozen Shoulder (Adhesive Capsulitis)
  • Shoulder Dislocation
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Labral Tear

Elbow

Elbow

Elbow

Elbow pain is often linked to repetitive motion and overuse. Golfer's elbow (medial epicondylitis) causes pain from the elbow to the wrist on the palm side of the forearm, typically from repeated bending of the wrist, while tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) causes pain on the back of the elbow and forearm from repetitive gripping or swinging motions. Olecranon bursitis, inflammation of the fluid-filled sac at the point of the elbow, usually results from direct trauma or prolonged pressure, causing swelling, pain and limited movement. Most cases respond well to rest, ice and anti-inflammatory treatment, though severe or persistent cases may need further medical intervention.

Related Conditions

  • Golfer's Elbow (Medial Epicondylitis)
  • Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis)
  • Olecranon Bursitis

Foot & Ankle

Foot & Ankle

Foot & Ankle

The foot and ankle bear the body's full weight with every step, so even a small injury can significantly affect mobility. Fractures and dislocations are among the most common injuries and may need a cast, splint or surgery depending on severity. Foot conditions such as bunions, plantar fasciitis (a common cause of heel pain), hammertoe and ingrown toenails often develop gradually from repeated stress, tight footwear or muscle imbalance. Ankle sprains, caused by twisting or rolling the ankle, and Achilles tendon injuries from overuse, are also frequent causes of pain and instability in this area.

Related Conditions

  • Foot & Ankle Fractures
  • Foot & Ankle Dislocation
  • Bunion
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Hammertoe
  • Ingrown Toenail
  • Ankle Sprain
  • Achilles Tendon Injury

Hand & Wrist

Hand & Wrist

Hand & Wrist

With 27 small bones and 30 muscles working together in the hand and wrist, even minor conditions here can affect fine, everyday movements. Osteoarthritis commonly affects the base of the thumb and finger joints, causing swelling, stiffness and pain. Carpal tunnel syndrome, caused by pressure on the median nerve in the wrist, leads to numbness, tingling and weakness in the thumb and fingers, and tends to worsen without treatment. Tendonitis and tenosynovitis cause inflammation of the tendons from overuse or underlying conditions like diabetes, while trigger finger and De Quervain's tenosynovitis both involve inflamed tendons that restrict smooth finger or thumb movement. Fractures are also common in this area, ranging from minor breaks treated with a splint to more complex injuries needing surgery.

Related Conditions

  • Osteoarthritis
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Tendonitis
  • Tenosynovitis
  • Trigger Finger
  • De Quervain's Tenosynovitis
  • Hand & Wrist Fractures
