Cataract surgery aims to remove the cloudy natural lens and replace it with an artificial intraocular lens to help improve vision. Suitability, lens choice, expected outcome, and any additional requirements should be discussed during consultation with the eye specialist.
Why Consider Cataract Surgery?
Cataracts occur when the natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy, causing vision to become blurred, hazy, or less clear. Over time, cataracts may affect daily life, including reading, driving, watching television, recognising faces, or moving safely in unfamiliar places.
Cataract surgery is a commonly performed procedure to remove the cloudy lens and replace it with an artificial intraocular lens. For suitable patients, surgery may help improve clarity of vision and quality of life. Early consultation with an ophthalmologist can help determine whether symptoms are caused by cataracts and whether surgery is recommended.
