The Lymphoedema Screening Package at Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway City Kuala Lumpur is designed for individuals experiencing persistent limb swelling, heaviness, tightness, or skin changes that do not go away. Limb heaviness or tightness, even without visible swelling, may be an early symptom of lymphoedema and should be assessed by a medical professional.

This package includes ICG Lymphography-Guided Screening, a lymphatic imaging method that helps identify the location and flow of lymphatic vessels more accurately. The screening is safe, free from radiation, and has a reduced risk of allergic reaction.

Lymphoedema may occur after cancer treatment, surgery, radiation therapy, injury, or due to an inherited lymphatic system condition. It may commonly affect the arms, legs, breast, chest wall, face, neck, or genital region depending on the underlying cause. A personalised consultation is required to assess suitability and determine the appropriate screening plan.

Why Consider Lymphoedema Screening?

Lymphoedema is a condition that can occur when lymphatic fluid does not drain properly, causing swelling, heaviness, tightness, skin thickening, or discomfort in the affected area. In some cases, early symptoms may appear as limb heaviness or tightness before visible swelling develops.

Not all swelling after cancer treatment is lymphoedema. Other possible causes such as deep vein thrombosis, infection, heart failure, kidney disease, venous insufficiency, or cancer recurrence may need to be excluded. This is why a medical consultation and proper assessment are important.

Early screening may help identify lymphatic concerns and guide the next steps for monitoring, treatment planning, or specialist care.

What Is ICG Lymphography-Guided Screening?

ICG Lymphography-Guided Screening is a lymphatic imaging method used to assess lymphatic vessel location and flow. It uses indocyanine green, also known as ICG, to help visualise the lymphatic vessels during the screening.

Based on the package information, ICG Lymphography-Guided Screening is:

  • Safe and free from radiation
  • Associated with a reduced risk of allergic reaction
  • Useful for accurate identification of lymphatic vessel location

  • Had surgery or radiation therapy
  • Experienced an upper or lower limb injury
  • An inherited lymphatic system condition
