SPOT-MAS 10 Plus Cancer Screening Package is a comprehensive health screening package in Malaysia that combines multi-cancer early detection with general health assessment. SPOT-MAS 10 is a blood-based ctDNA test that analyses circulating tumour DNA released by cancer cells into the bloodstream, helping detect early signals of 10 common and aggressive cancers.

SPOT-MAS 10 is designed to support early cancer detection by identifying cancer-related DNA signals through a single blood draw. It may help detect early signs of cancers such as breast, lung, colorectal, stomach, liver-biliary tract, ovary, pancreas, esophagus, head and neck, and endometrium. The test is intended as a complementary screening option and does not replace standard-of-care cancer screening or diagnostic testing.

Available at Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway City Kuala Lumpur, this package combines SPOT-MAS 10 with health screening components such as blood investigation, urine analysis, resting ECG, chest X-ray, ultrasound abdomen and pelvis, diet counselling, and clinical consultation by a health screening doctor. It is suitable for individuals who want a proactive approach to early cancer detection and overall health screening in one visit.

Why Consider SPOT-MAS 10 Plus?

Early cancer detection can make a meaningful difference in treatment planning and health outcomes. Many cancers may not show obvious symptoms in the early stages, and some cancers do not have standard routine screening programmes. SPOT-MAS 10 helps support proactive screening by looking for cancer-related ctDNA signals in the blood.

SPOT-MAS 10 may be especially useful as a complementary screening option alongside routine cancer screening, hereditary cancer risk testing, imaging, and doctor-recommended checks. It provides a blood-based approach that can help identify possible cancer signals earlier and guide whether further diagnostic imaging or specialist review is needed.

How Does SPOT-MAS 10 Work?

Cells in the body release DNA fragments into the bloodstream. Cancer cells can release circulating tumour DNA, also known as ctDNA. SPOT-MAS 10 analyses ctDNA from a blood sample using sequencing technology to detect cancer-related signals.

If a ctDNA signal is detected, the result may include possible predictions of where the cancer signal may originate in the body. However, SPOT-MAS 10 is a screening test, so a positive result must be followed by confirmatory diagnostic testing.

Who May Benefit from SPOT-MAS 10 Plus?

You may consider this package if you:

  • Want a proactive multi-cancer early detection test
  • Are aged 40 years and above
  • Are below 40 but have higher cancer risk factors
  • Have a family history of cancer
  • Have a history of heavy smoking
  • Have a history of heavy alcohol consumption
  • Have hereditary cancer risks or known inherited cancer gene mutations
  • Have liver disease such as hepatitis B or hepatitis C
  • Want to combine cancer screening with a comprehensive health check-up
  • Prefer a blood-based complementary cancer screening option

What Cancers Can SPOT-MAS 10 Help Screen For?

SPOT-MAS 10 is designed to look for early cancer signals related to 10 cancer types:

  • Breast cancer
  • Lung cancer
  • Colorectal cancer
  • Stomach cancer
  • Liver-biliary tract cancer
  • Ovarian cancer
  • Pancreatic cancer
  • Esophageal cancer
  • Head and neck cancer
  • Endometrial cancer

SPOT-MAS 10 Test Process

The test process generally involves:

  1. Requesting the test through a doctor or healthcare provider.
  2. Providing one tube of blood sample, usually around 10mL.
  3. Processing extracted DNA from plasma using next-generation sequencing to analyse ctDNA features.
  4. Receiving results after the sample has been processed by the laboratory.

Understanding SPOT-MAS 10 Results

Negative result
No ctDNA signal is detected at the time of testing. This result provides a snapshot of the blood at the time of sample collection and does not predict future cancer risk. Patients should continue routine cancer screening and seek medical advice if symptoms appear.

Positive result
A ctDNA signal associated with tumour cells is detected in the blood. A positive result does not confirm cancer. Further diagnostic imaging or specialist evaluation is required to confirm whether cancer is present and where it may be located.

What is SPOT-MAS 10?
SPOT-MAS 10 is a multi-cancer early detection test that analyses circulating tumour DNA, or ctDNA, in the blood to help identify early cancer-related signals.

What is ctDNA?
ctDNA stands for circulating tumour DNA. It refers to DNA fragments released by tumour cells into the bloodstream. Analysing ctDNA can provide useful information for early cancer detection and further diagnostic planning.

What cancers can SPOT-MAS 10 help screen for?
SPOT-MAS 10 looks for cancer signals related to 10 cancer types: breast, lung, colorectal, stomach, liver-biliary tract, ovary, pancreas, esophagus, head and neck, and endometrium.

Is SPOT-MAS 10 the same as a cancer diagnosis?
No. SPOT-MAS 10 is a screening test and cannot diagnose cancer on its own. A positive result must be followed by confirmatory diagnostic testing.

What does a negative result mean?
A negative result means no ctDNA signal was detected at the time the test was conducted. It does not predict future cancer risk and does not replace routine screening or medical review if symptoms occur.

What does a positive result mean?
A positive result means a ctDNA signal associated with tumour cells was detected. Further diagnostic tests are required to confirm whether cancer is truly present.

Who should consider SPOT-MAS 10?
SPOT-MAS 10 may be considered by adults aged 40 and above, adults below 40 with high cancer risk factors, people with family history of cancer, heavy smoking or drinking history, hereditary cancer risks, or liver disease such as hepatitis B or C.

Does SPOT-MAS 10 replace mammogram, colonoscopy, Pap test, or low-dose CT scan?
No. SPOT-MAS 10 is a complementary screening option and does not replace recommended standard-of-care screening tests.
